BSIMAC 8.0 Software

Cooling/Heating Loads, Annual Energy

PURPOSE

BSIMAC 8.0 is intended to serve as a basic tool for assisting engineers and architects in the design of thermally efficient buildings. The main functions of BSIMAC 8.0 include:

  1. For air-conditioned buildings - the determination of the required capacities and performance of the main components of the system, including cooling and heating loads, air quantities, plant capacities, inside surface temperatures of walls, windows and roofs, and annual energy requirements.
  2. For naturally ventilated buildings - thermal analysis of the building, including the effects of the building envelope (walls, windows, roofs and floors), infiltration rates, and building orientation on indoor temperatures, inside surface temperatures of walls windows and roofs, cooling and heating loads, and annual energy requirements.

BASIS

Originally developed by the CSIR, the current version, BSIMAC 8.0 is based on state-of-the-art procedures as recommended by the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The computations are carried out on an hour-by-hour basis using the recently developed 'Radiant Time Series' method.

TESTING

BSIMAC 8.0 has been successfully tested in accordance with ASHRAE 140-2007.

STRUCTURE

BSIMAC 8.0 has been structured for easy handling of jobs of any size, from single rooms to large buildings. Valuable feedback from the existing users, based on many years of experience with previous versions of BSIMAC, has been incorporated in the software.

HARDWARE

To use BSIMAC 8.0 one needs a personal computer operating under Windows 2000/NT/XP/Vista, with at least 500 MB of RAM and 60 MB of available hard disk space. BSIMAC 8.0 will also operate on a network.

SUPPORT

Full technical support and training courses are offered to the users of BSIMAC 8.0.

MAIN FEATURES:

Jobs of any size - No limit to the number of rooms (zones) or plants.

Climatic Data - Stores climatic data for all major centers in South Africa for 12 months of the year. Generates new climatic data from Weather Bureau information.  Reads international weather data formats, e.g. TMY2, EPW (under development).

Materials Data - Stores data on user-defined wall/roof constructions as well as building and insulating materials in editable data banks.
